trixie

This is Trixie. I've blogged about her but haven't put a picture of her up yet. She is very camera shy. I'll tell you how we got her last November - My husband's birthday is in November on a weekend day last year. The kids and grandkids were coming up for a BBQ birthday party. They stopped at a yard sale along the way. The people giving the yard sale ask if they wanted a dog. My son says sure. They put Trixie and all her "things" in their car and came up to our birthday party. Just kidding they said "we brought you a dog for your birthday present." My husband said thank you! When the kids and grandkids were leaving they told my husband they had just been kidding - he really didn't have to keep the dog, it was a joke. They had planned on keeping it. But my husband said he really liked the dog so we kept her. So here is a picture of Trixie our little Papillion.....

Happy Father's Day

The Daughter-in-law and grandkids came over yesterday. We swam in the pool. We BBQ'ed. When "Dad" got off work we swam in the pool again until 11:30pm. With the stereo blasting, the kids danced, the dog barked and the cats hid. At midnight we decided to play poker. At 2am our 10 year old grand daughter had won all the chips. They had gotten "grandpa" his favorite - Bud Select. Awhile back they had gotten him a golf cookie jar. He has over 400 cookie jars. The grandkids spend the night and got up early to yard sale with "grandpa". They didn't find any yard sale goodies but did find some ice cream cones at McDonald :) Life is Good!

groceries can be expensive when...

Yesterday as I was coming home from the grocery store and PetCo, I was in an accident. I was going through a green light when a small Honda decided to make a left hand turn at the same time. I can't believe she could not see me in a BIG ORANGE CHEVY AVALANCHE TRUCK going through the light but she turned anyway and hit me. Her car hit my front left bumper and turned and hit my chrome step on the driver side too. She was on her cell phone not paying attention and/or figured she could turn before my big truck went through the intersection and/or she was drunk....
When they pulled her vehicle over to the gas station, they had her do a sobriety test. Anyway.....
A very nice man asked if he could help me - he called my husband for me. I was shaking. Also a very nice lady asked if I needed any help. She rode in the ambulance with me. She stayed at the Emergency Room with my husband for a couple hours until he took her back to her vehicle she had left at the gas station too. She told my husband that she knew all about pain she has crohn's disease. She had told me I must have had a guardian angel with me during that accident. Yes I did!

choosing a profession

An old country preacher had a teenage son, and it was getting time the boy should give some thought to choosing a profession. Like many young men his age, the boy didn't really know what he wanted to do, and he didn't seem too concerned about it. One day, while the boy was away at school, his father decided to try an experiment. He went into the boy's room and placed on his study table four objects. 1. A bible 2. A silver dollar 3. A bottle of whisky 4. An adult magazine"I'll just hide behind the door," the old preacher said to himself. "When he comes home from school today, I'll see which object he picks up. If it's the bible, he's going to be a preacher like me, and what a blessing that would be! If he picks up the dollar, he's going to be a business man, and that would be okay, too. But if he picks up the bottle, he's going to be no-good drunken bum, and Lord, what a shame that would be. And worst of all if he picks up that magazine he's going to be a skirt-chasing womanizer. "The old man waited anxiously, and soon heard his son's footsteps as he entered the house whistling and headed for his room. The boy tossed his books on the bed, and as he turned to leave the room he spotted the objects on the table. With curiosity in his eye, he walked over to inspect them. Finally, he picked up the Bible and placed it under his arm. He picked up the silver dollar and dropped it into his pocket. He uncorked the bottle and took a big drink, while he admired this month's centerfold."Lord have mercy," the old preacher disgustedly whispered "He's gonna run for Congress."

remember the good old days when.....

Remember the good old days when gas was 25 cent a gallon? I do! I owned a '57 2 door hardtop Chevrolet that I paid $300 for. That was back in 1969. I remember complaining about gas going up from 23 cent to 25 cent a gallon.
Yesterday when I went to get gas for my Chevy Truck, the QT down the street had gas at $4.15. I drove over to Costco and got gas for $3.84 and felt relieved that I didn't have to pay the $4.15. I was thinking about ways to trim my budget to afford these rising gas prices....
Put the cats on a diet? No new clothes for my dog? thinking.....

hummingbird are not cat friendly

I have many hummingbirds in my garden. Yes in Arizona! They love my aloe vera the best. One time Si caught a hummingbird - which is amazing. Si being sixteen years old, never showing any interest in anything but sleeping and eating. He brought it in the house through the pet door. Hearing low growling sounds, I rush to find the problem. It was Si with a bird in his mouth. The bird was dead :( For the longest time after that, I had another hummingbird that kept trying to go through the pet door. I had to put a small curtain rod with a towel around it up above the pet door to kept the hummingbirds away from the door.

liver and cheese

Three handsome male dogs are walking down the street when they see a beautiful, enticing, female Poodle. The three male dogs fall all over themselves in an effort to be the one to reach her first, but end up arriving in front of her at the same time.

The males are speechless before her beauty, slobbering on themselves and hoping for just a glance from her in return.

Aware of her charms and her obvious effect on the three suitors, she decides to be kind and tells them, 'The first one who can use the words 'liver' and 'cheese' together in an imaginative, intelligent sentence can go out with me.'

The sturdy, muscular black Lab speaks up quickly and says, 'I love liver and cheese.'

'Oh, how childish,' said the Poodle. 'That shows no imagination or intelligence whatsoever.'

She turns to the tall, shiny Golden Retriever and says 'How well can you do?'

'Um. I HATE liver and cheese,' blurts the Golden Retriever.

'My, my', said the Poodle. 'I guess it's hopeless. That's just as dumb as the Lab's sentence.'

She then turns to the last of the three dogs and says, 'How about you, little guy?'
The last of the three, tiny in stature but big in fame and finesse, is the Taco Bell Chihuahua.
He gives her a smile, a sly wink, turns to the Golden Retriever and the Lab and says .....
Liver alone. Cheese mine.

I watched the Phoenix Mars Lander land. How amazing! There are people out there that smart. I can't imagine making something that would land on Mars and take pictures - WOW

I Love Rain and Flowers!

Today the pool looks perfect. I can't wait until the grandkids are out of school and playing in the pool. After cleaning the pool I "work" on my flower beds. Last year I planted one small camelia bush. This morning there were three blooming flowers and several buds. As you have already read on my page - I Love Rain and...... I Love Flowers!

as the cat slept

A week ago it rained slightly a little bit in the morning and then it was gone. It was beautiful .... Yesterday it rained - real rain, like coming down hard rain. I loved it! AND it looks like rain again today. This rain is happening in the same week we broke records on our high temperature. Amazing!
Yesterday during the rain, my two cats slept - the dog laid on the couch and watched movies with my husband and I. Life is good.

I love rain

I love rain! This is just my opinion but I think when it finally rains in Arizona everything should be closed for a state holiday. There is a slight cool breeze with rain sprinkles this morning. I got up early and got all my house chores done so I could sit out on the back patio and watch this beautiful day.
My pool is blue again. I get many visitors to my pool (some invited and some not). All the neighborhood cats come to my pool and drink - so do my cats and dog. I've seen birds fly unto the clorine dispenser that floats in the pool and take a drink from the pool. I've watched small birds sit at the end of the slide and drink from the pool too. I've also found an occasional geicko at the bottom of the pool.
My dog runs around the pool chasing her reflection - so cute! One of these days when I figure out how to upload on YouTube I'm going to take movies of all the "happenings" at my pool.

Unchain my heart - PLEASE set me free

Unchain my heart, baby let me be
Cause you don't care, help me, set me free
Unchain my heart, baby let me go
Unchain my heart, cause you don't love me no more
Every time I call you on the phone
Some fellow tells me that you're not at home
Unchain my heart, set me free
Unchain my heart, baby let me be
Unchain my heart, cause you don't care about me
You got me sewed up like a pillow case
But you let my love go to waste
Unchain my heart, set me free
I'm under your spell, like a man in a trance, oh yeah
Oh but you know damn well, that I don't stand a chance
Unchain my heart, let me go my way
Unchain my heart, you were mean that day
Why lead me through a life of misery
When you don't care a bag of beans for me
Unchain my heart, oh please, let me be

omelet - how they should look

My mother-in-law and her friend came to visit last week. One of days while they were here. We had an extremely busy day. I had bought pork chops to grill outside for that night, my husband's speciality and favorite food. Because he had to work overtime and we had gotten back home later than expected, I decided to make omelets for dinner instead. This was something I could cook fairly well sooooo..... I had put all my ingrediances in the pan - it started to burn (oh no). So I tried to flip it.... what a disaster! The omelet broke into a hundred pieces and was burning. I forgot to spray the pan first :( I had three more omelets to make using the pan that still had burnt omelet from the time before. I also didn't realize I was using a frying pan instead of the omelet pan. So much for trying to impress my mother-in-law!

My Jesus, My Savior ......

My Jesus, My Savior Lord there is none like You
All of my days, I want to praise The wonders of Your mighty love
My Comfort, My Shelter Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am Never cease to worship You
(Chorus)
Shout to the Lord, all the earth Let us sing.
Power and majesty, praise to the King.
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands
Forever I'll love you, forever I'll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in YOU!
(Chorus)
My Jesus, My Savior Lord there is none like You
All of my days, I want to praise The wonders of Your mighty love
My Comfort, My Shelter Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am Never cease to worship You
(Chorus)
Shout to the Lord, all the earth Let us sing.
Power and majesty, praise to the King.
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands
Forever I'll love you, forever I'll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in YOU!
(Bridge)
Let the earth sing i declare your great name
All of my life I will with all of my breath I will praise you lift it up, life it up
(Chorus)
Nothing compares to you
I shout your praise
Nothing compares to you
Nothing compares to the promise I have in YOU!

Did anyone watch American Idol Wednesday and then again on Thursday? They sang this song incorrectly as MY Sheppard, My Savior. On Thursday they sang the correct version as My Jesus, My Savior. I don't know why. Anyone out there have a clue?

It's fun being retired

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting. Well, for example, the other day I went downtown and went into a shop. I was only in there for about 5 minutes and when I came out there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. I went up to him and said, "Come on, man, how about giving a retired person a break"?
He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a "Pussy." He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires. So I asked him directions to the nearest doughnut shop. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.
Personally, I didn't care. I came downtown on the bus. The car that he was putting the tickets on had a bumper sticker that said "OBAMA 2008." I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired. It's important to my health.

Solving the pigeon problem

Subject: Solving pigeon problem

The mayor of the City Palmdale , CA was very worried about a plague of pigeons in Palmdale. He could not remove the pigeons from the city. All of Palmdale was full of pigeon poop, the people of Palmdale could not walk on the sidewalks, or drive on the roads. It was costing a fortune to keep the streets and sidewalks clean. One day a man came to City Hall and offered the Mayor a proposition. 'I can rid your beautiful city of its plague of pigeons without any cost to the city. But, you must promise not to ask me any questions. Or, you can pay me one million dollars to ask one question.'

The mayor considered the offer briefly and accepted the free proposition. The next day the man climbed to the top of City Hall, opened his coat, and released a blue pigeon. The blue pigeon circled in the air and flew up into the bright blue California sky. All the pigeons in Palmdale saw the blue pigeon and gathered up in the air behind the blue pigeon. The Palmdale pigeons followed the blue pigeon as she flew southward out of the city.

The next day the blue pigeon returned completely alone to the man atop City Hall. The Mayor was very impressed. He felt the man and the blue pigeon had performed a wonderful miraculous feat to rid Palmdale of the plague of pigeons. Even though the man with the pigeon had charged nothing, the mayor presented him with a check for 1 million dollars and told the man that, indeed, he did have a question to ask and even though they had agreed to no fee and the man had rid the city of pigeons, he decided to pay the 1 million just to get to ask ONE question. The man accepted the money and told the mayor to ask his ONE question.

Do you think the Mayor is going to ask how the blue pigeon led all the pigeons away?

Do you think the Mayor is going to ask where all the pigeons went?

Do you think he is going to ask where the man got the blue pigeon?

Nooooooo!

Write to me in the comment section and I'll tell you the answer - hehehehe
