ouch

On 6-11-08 I was in an accident. I wrote about it in an earlier post. I have gotten nothing but the run around from her (the person who hit me) insurance. When her insurance agent told me today that her client said it was my fault..... I got a lawyer. As I went through the light..... she decided to turn left in front of all the traffic going north. She was given a ticket and she was given a sobriety test! (1:30 in the afternoon on a Wednesday)
What I got was a trip to the emergency room in an ambulance, a damaged driver's side truck. Now I get to spend my time at doctor's offices and the lawyer's office.
The quick trip to the grocery store cost me $3,658.23 for the emergency room and $723.33 for the ambulance. Then there is the prescriptions, my husband had to take two days off, the damage to my truck...... GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY!

6-24-08

Then Jesus used this story: "There was a rich man that had some land. His land grew a very good crop of food. The rich man thought to himself, 'What will I do? I have no place to keep all my crops.' Then the rich man said, 'I know what I will do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger barns! I will put all my wheat and good things together in my new barns. Then I can say to myself, I have many good things stored. I have saved enough for many years. Rest, eat, drink, and enjoy life!' But God said to that man, 'Foolish man! Tonight you will die. So what about the things you prepared for yourself? Who will get those things now?' This is how it will be for the person that saves things only for himself. To God that person is not rich." (ERV)

Father, thank you for all of my blessings. Help me have the wisdom to use them in ways that honor you, bless others, and bring you joy. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

As I listened today, to someone I know .... I thought of this.

Car-Baked Chocolate Chip Cookies

With our weather at over 110 everyday this week ...... I'll try it and let you know how the cookies turn out.

I LOVE ARIZONA

Things we do and not do in Arizona:
1. We park our vehicles under trees no matter how far we have to walk.
2. We do NOT walk on any type of pavement without shoes!
3. We do NOT leave anything in our vehicles! Kids, Pets, Grocery, etc.
4. We accept that our electric bills will be high in the summer.
5. We can yard sale year-round but only from 6am until noon.
6. Road construction is done during the wee hours of the night.
7. People in construction jobs - their work hours change in summer.
8. We know that if we want to see water - we have to drive (CA).
9. We understand the words, monsoon and haboob.
AND
10. We do NOT change our time in spring and fall!
there's more... lots more
Anyone who has leather seats in their car is not from Arizona.
When watering my plants I make sure all the hot water goes through the hose first.
We understand that anything left out in the hot sun for a year will have to be replaced.
When buying plants, it says it takes full sun - that does not mean it takes Arizona full sun!
Kids do not play outside during the afternoon in the summer time.
My pool temperature yesterday was 95. We swim in the mornings and the evenings.
Most people here have pools - play pools (small inground pool) or like mine, a diving pool.

Phoenix is Phoenix - when we say we live in Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, etc. We live in Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, and Tempe even though we all blend together in the Phoenix area.
Phoenix is known as the Valley of the Sun. Those of us that live East of Downtown Phoenix are in the East Valley (like me) and those West are in the West Valley. There is no North and South Valley - you are only considered East or West. If you are North or South, are referred to as the city you live in. Apache Junction and Queen Creek are considered the boundaries of East Valley. El Mirage and Buckeye are considered the boundaries of West Valley. Cave Creek is North and Maricopa County is South. If you look on the map - that is a huge area!

We all know what times and directions are good and what times and directions are bad to be on the 10, 17, 101, 202,(the 303 doesn't count, yet) and the 60. I know what it is like to be stuck in the tunnel because of an accident :(

trixie

This is Trixie. I've blogged about her but haven't put a picture of her up yet. She is very camera shy. I'll tell you how we got her last November - My husband's birthday is in November on a weekend day last year. The kids and grandkids were coming up for a BBQ birthday party. They stopped at a yard sale along the way. The people giving the yard sale ask if they wanted a dog. My son says sure. They put Trixie and all her "things" in their car and came up to our birthday party. Just kidding they said "we brought you a dog for your birthday present." My husband said thank you! When the kids and grandkids were leaving they told my husband they had just been kidding - he really didn't have to keep the dog, it was a joke. They had planned on keeping it. But my husband said he really liked the dog so we kept her. So here is a picture of Trixie our little Papillion.....

Happy Father's Day

The Daughter-in-law and grandkids came over yesterday. We swam in the pool. We BBQ'ed. When "Dad" got off work we swam in the pool again until 11:30pm. With the stereo blasting, the kids danced, the dog barked and the cats hid. At midnight we decided to play poker. At 2am our 10 year old grand daughter had won all the chips. They had gotten "grandpa" his favorite - Bud Select. Awhile back they had gotten him a golf cookie jar. He has over 400 cookie jars. The grandkids spend the night and got up early to yard sale with "grandpa". They didn't find any yard sale goodies but did find some ice cream cones at McDonald :) Life is Good!

groceries can be expensive when...

Yesterday as I was coming home from the grocery store and PetCo, I was in an accident. I was going through a green light when a small Honda decided to make a left hand turn at the same time. I can't believe she could not see me in a BIG ORANGE CHEVY AVALANCHE TRUCK going through the light but she turned anyway and hit me. Her car hit my front left bumper and turned and hit my chrome step on the driver side too. She was on her cell phone not paying attention and/or figured she could turn before my big truck went through the intersection and/or she was drunk....
When they pulled her vehicle over to the gas station, they had her do a sobriety test. Anyway.....
A very nice man asked if he could help me - he called my husband for me. I was shaking. Also a very nice lady asked if I needed any help. She rode in the ambulance with me. She stayed at the Emergency Room with my husband for a couple hours until he took her back to her vehicle she had left at the gas station too. She told my husband that she knew all about pain she has crohn's disease. She had told me I must have had a guardian angel with me during that accident. Yes I did!

choosing a profession

An old country preacher had a teenage son, and it was getting time the boy should give some thought to choosing a profession. Like many young men his age, the boy didn't really know what he wanted to do, and he didn't seem too concerned about it. One day, while the boy was away at school, his father decided to try an experiment. He went into the boy's room and placed on his study table four objects. 1. A bible 2. A silver dollar 3. A bottle of whisky 4. An adult magazine"I'll just hide behind the door," the old preacher said to himself. "When he comes home from school today, I'll see which object he picks up. If it's the bible, he's going to be a preacher like me, and what a blessing that would be! If he picks up the dollar, he's going to be a business man, and that would be okay, too. But if he picks up the bottle, he's going to be no-good drunken bum, and Lord, what a shame that would be. And worst of all if he picks up that magazine he's going to be a skirt-chasing womanizer. "The old man waited anxiously, and soon heard his son's footsteps as he entered the house whistling and headed for his room. The boy tossed his books on the bed, and as he turned to leave the room he spotted the objects on the table. With curiosity in his eye, he walked over to inspect them. Finally, he picked up the Bible and placed it under his arm. He picked up the silver dollar and dropped it into his pocket. He uncorked the bottle and took a big drink, while he admired this month's centerfold."Lord have mercy," the old preacher disgustedly whispered "He's gonna run for Congress."

remember the good old days when.....

Remember the good old days when gas was 25 cent a gallon? I do! I owned a '57 2 door hardtop Chevrolet that I paid $300 for. That was back in 1969. I remember complaining about gas going up from 23 cent to 25 cent a gallon.
Yesterday when I went to get gas for my Chevy Truck, the QT down the street had gas at $4.15. I drove over to Costco and got gas for $3.84 and felt relieved that I didn't have to pay the $4.15. I was thinking about ways to trim my budget to afford these rising gas prices....
Put the cats on a diet? No new clothes for my dog? thinking.....

hummingbird are not cat friendly

I have many hummingbirds in my garden. Yes in Arizona! They love my aloe vera the best. One time Si caught a hummingbird - which is amazing. Si being sixteen years old, never showing any interest in anything but sleeping and eating. He brought it in the house through the pet door. Hearing low growling sounds, I rush to find the problem. It was Si with a bird in his mouth. The bird was dead :( For the longest time after that, I had another hummingbird that kept trying to go through the pet door. I had to put a small curtain rod with a towel around it up above the pet door to kept the hummingbirds away from the door.

liver and cheese

Three handsome male dogs are walking down the street when they see a beautiful, enticing, female Poodle. The three male dogs fall all over themselves in an effort to be the one to reach her first, but end up arriving in front of her at the same time.

The males are speechless before her beauty, slobbering on themselves and hoping for just a glance from her in return.

Aware of her charms and her obvious effect on the three suitors, she decides to be kind and tells them, 'The first one who can use the words 'liver' and 'cheese' together in an imaginative, intelligent sentence can go out with me.'

The sturdy, muscular black Lab speaks up quickly and says, 'I love liver and cheese.'

'Oh, how childish,' said the Poodle. 'That shows no imagination or intelligence whatsoever.'

She turns to the tall, shiny Golden Retriever and says 'How well can you do?'

'Um. I HATE liver and cheese,' blurts the Golden Retriever.

'My, my', said the Poodle. 'I guess it's hopeless. That's just as dumb as the Lab's sentence.'

She then turns to the last of the three dogs and says, 'How about you, little guy?'
The last of the three, tiny in stature but big in fame and finesse, is the Taco Bell Chihuahua.
He gives her a smile, a sly wink, turns to the Golden Retriever and the Lab and says .....
Liver alone. Cheese mine.
